The morning after Christmas is usually slow and cozy for most people—but this wonderful extended family brought so much energy and holiday cheer to my downtown studio.
Bright and early the day after Christmas, they arrived ready for their extended family photo session, and I think we may have set a record for how quickly we completed photos for such a large group. Everyone was organized, on time, and totally on top of it—which made the session smooth, fun, and incredibly efficient.
Photographing large families can sometimes feel a little chaotic, but this group made it look easy. We moved quickly through the different combinations—full family portraits, smaller family groups, and sibling photos—while keeping the atmosphere relaxed and cheerful.
Studio sessions like this are perfect during the winter months in Indianapolis. With the cold weather outside, having a warm and comfortable space allows families to focus on what matters most: spending time together and capturing memories that will last for years.
For families searching for Indianapolis family photographers, studio sessions are also a great option when coordinating schedules with extended relatives who may be visiting from out of town during the holidays.
One of the highlights of this session was connecting with Melanie Tyler, who helped coordinate the family photos.
Melanie works as a new home sales consultant on the north side of Indianapolis, and when she reached out about photographing her family, I was absolutely delighted. It’s always such an honor when someone trusts me to capture their family’s memories—especially during the holiday season when everyone is gathered together.
The holidays are one of the few times during the year when extended families are all together in one place. That makes it the perfect opportunity to schedule a quick studio session and capture updated portraits of everyone.
Extended family sessions allow us to photograph:
Even in a short amount of time, it’s possible to create a gallery full of meaningful images.
This session was full of smiles, laughter, and positive holiday energy from start to finish. I’m so grateful this family chose to spend part of their holiday break in the studio with me.
Thank you again to Melanie and the entire family for bringing such wonderful cheer to the studio the morning after Christmas. It was truly a joy to photograph all of you!
If you’re looking for Indianapolis family photographers for extended family portraits, studio sessions are a wonderful way to gather everyone together and preserve those special moments.
