Staying True to My Beliefs: The Importance of Family Photos and Keeping My Word

As a photographer, I’m always focused on capturing the perfect moments for my clients, ensuring they have memories to treasure for years to come. But one thing I’ve learned through my own experiences is that it’s just as important to make sure I practice what I preach. That’s why, this year, I decided to make it a priority to have professional family photos taken—something I’ve always believed in for others but sometimes let slip for myself. After all, keeping my word and staying true to my beliefs is what matters most, both in life and in my work.

For our family, this year was extra special. We made sure to carve out the time to have our family Christmas card photos taken, something I felt deeply committed to. And honestly, I’m so glad we did.

We had the privilege of working with the incredibly talented Katherine Mei Photography, and she did an outstanding job. What I truly loved about Katherine’s approach was how simple and stress-free the whole process was. With our busy schedules, finding the right time for family photos can be challenging, but Katherine offered an 8-minute mini-session that was perfect for us, especially for our little one, Beau. At just the right time when he was happy and engaged, we got the shots we needed without feeling rushed or overwhelmed.

I’ve always said that family photos shouldn’t feel like a chore, and Katherine made it clear that sessions can be short, sweet, and still meaningful. It was so refreshing to experience firsthand the ease and joy that comes with working with a photographer who respects your time and creates an environment where everyone feels comfortable.

Now, we’re excited to share our 2024 Christmas card with our friends and family! The photos turned out absolutely beautiful, capturing our family’s love and personality perfectly. This year, more than ever, I’ve come to appreciate the importance of having those tangible, lasting memories.

I encourage everyone to take the time for family photos, whether it’s for the holidays or just because. It’s one of the best investments you can make—not only for the memories but also for the opportunity to reflect on what truly matters. For me, keeping my word to my family and staying true to my own beliefs as a photographer was something I was determined to do this year, and I couldn’t be happier with the result.
