As an Indianapolis photographer, I spend so much of my time behind the camera—capturing families, couples, and all the little moments in between. But recently, I had the chance to step in front of the lens myself for something really special: our own family photos before my son Beau’s birthday.
Every summer, I make it a priority to get family photos taken. It’s my favorite time of year—the lush greens, the warm golden light, the carefree energy of the season—it all just feels like “us.” Plus, the colors fit perfectly with our home, which makes it extra fun to see them framed on our walls.
This year, we worked with a new photographer, Kate of KGM Photos. She has the most beautiful flower farm at her home (and yes, I’m completely jealous!). It made the perfect backdrop for our session. Kate did such a wonderful job, and I’m so grateful for the images she captured.
If you know me, you know I’m probably the most sentimental person ever. I care deeply about preserving memories—not just for my clients, but for my own family too. Having these photos means I get to be in them with Beau, laughing, hugging, and just being together. I want him to look back one day and see not just what we looked like, but how much love surrounded him.
Honestly, I would do this every season if I could. Family photos are more than just “pictures”—they’re a way to freeze this chapter of our lives so we can revisit it for years to come.
Whether it’s with me or another photographer, I can’t recommend enough making the time to document your family regularly. You’ll never regret having these moments saved. See here where I chat about more why family photos mean so much to me!
