Some photo sessions are planned weeks in advance. Others? They start with an unexpected 8 AM phone call.

That’s exactly how this unforgettable proposal story began.

One morning, I received a call from Cody—someone I hadn’t spoken to since high school many years ago. At first, I was honestly a little confused. But within moments, everything made sense: he was calling to help plan a surprise proposal for his brother, Tyler, and Tyler’s soon-to-be fiancée, Jessica.

And just like that, we were putting together a plan for one of the sweetest, most heartfelt proposals I’ve had the honor of photographing.

The Perfect Proposal Setting

Tyler chose a meaningful and intimate location—Jessica’s parents’ lake house in Fishers, Indiana. Nestled by the water, it created the perfect backdrop: peaceful, personal, and filled with significance. It’s always so special when couples choose a place that already holds memories, making the moment even more meaningful.

A Thoughtfully Planned Surprise

With Cody helping coordinate behind the scenes, Tyler’s plan came together beautifully. Every detail reflected how much he cares for Jessica. From the timing to the setting, it was clear this wasn’t just a spur-of-the-moment decision—this was something he had put his heart into.

Despite the early morning rush and quick turnaround from that initial phone call, everything fell into place seamlessly.

The Moment She Said Yes

When the moment finally arrived, it was everything you hope a proposal will be—genuine, emotional, and full of joy. Jessica was completely surprised, and the look on her face said it all.

And of course… she said YES!

Being able to capture those raw, unfiltered emotions—the laughter, the happy tears, the disbelief—is exactly why I love photographing proposals. These are once-in-a-lifetime moments, and it’s such a privilege to preserve them forever.
