If you’re looking for the perfect place to capture your next family or newborn session in Franklin, Indiana, you’re in luck—this charming town offers some truly beautiful backdrops. As a family and newborn photographer, I’ve spent years exploring the best photo locations in Franklin, and today I’m sharing my top three favorites: Providence Park, Blue Heron Park, and Downtown Franklin. Each one offers something unique, whether you’re after natural scenery or small-town charm.
Providence Park is one of my go-to spots for relaxed, nature-inspired family sessions. Tucked away from the busier parts of Franklin, this park features winding paths, tall grasses, and open fields—perfect for capturing candid moments with your little ones. The light here in the evening is stunning, especially during golden hour, and the natural surroundings create a timeless look for your photos.
Blue Heron Park is a favorite among local families, and it’s easy to see why. With its lush trees, quiet walking trails, and scenic pond, this park is ideal for both family and newborn sessions. Kids love to explore here, which makes for sweet, authentic images. Whether we’re capturing cozy moments on a blanket or playful shots along the path, this park offers a serene setting that works beautifully in every season.
Downtown Franklin offers a totally different vibe—it’s full of character, color, and historic charm. When I do sessions here, I love starting outside the Wild Geese Bookshop. It’s not just the best bookstore in town (seriously, go inside if you have time!), but the area around it is filled with beautiful old homes, ornate fences, and lovely landscaping that create an incredible photo backdrop.
As we stroll through the historic streets, we take advantage of the unique textures and architecture that make Downtown Franklin so special. The changing seasons bring their own beauty—fall leaves, spring blooms, and even snowy winter shots can all look magical here.
One of my favorite things about shooting in Downtown Franklin? The coffee! I always recommend families treat themselves before or after their session at one of the local spots. Main & Madison Cafe offers delicious drinks and cozy vibes, Coffeehouse Five has amazing coffee and pastries, and 1823 Bakehouse is a must if you’re looking for gluten-free goodies.
