A Rainy Yet Magical Engagement Session at Butler University | Indianapolis Wedding Photographer

April in Indiana has been wild this year—think nonstop rain, strong winds, and the most unpredictable forecasts ever. As an Indianapolis wedding photographer, I’m always checking (and re-checking!) the weather leading up to a session. For Macey and David’s engagement session at Butler University and Holcomb Gardens, I did everything I could to make sure we wouldn’t get rained out. Every app promised us dry skies… until I pulled into Butler’s campus an hour before our session—and the downpour began.

But let me tell you—Macey and David were absolute champs. Their positivity, patience, and just genuinely fun energy were such a gift that day. Instead of panicking, they rolled with it. We waited it out, and I’m so glad we did. The rain cleared, the sun came out, and we captured some absolutely dreamy images on Butler’s gorgeous, historic campus.

Butler is one of my favorite spots in Indianapolis for engagement sessions. The mix of timeless architecture and vibrant spring blooms creates a romantic, elegant backdrop for couples. And in this session, the lingering raindrops on the tulips and trees actually added a soft, magical touch. Sometimes, the unpredictable moments make the best memories.

Macey is currently studying pharmacy at Butler, so the campus held special meaning for her. It was the perfect setting to celebrate this exciting season in their lives. And after spending the evening together, hearing about their upcoming July wedding at The Bel Air in Kokomo, Indiana, I am even more excited to photograph their big day. They’re incorporating so many thoughtful touches—family heirlooms, sweet tributes, and meaningful details that already tell such a rich story.
