Sunset Session along Indianapolis Canal Walk

There’s nothing quite like a golden-hour stroll along the Indianapolis Canal Walk, and when you add in a fun, laid-back couple like Gretta and Cam, it makes for an unforgettable session! These two wanted to celebrate their anniversary and Cam’s birthday with a romantic couples session, and I couldn’t think of a better location than the scenic downtown Indianapolis canal.

We kicked things off near the NCAA Hall of Champions, a perfect starting point to explore the heart of the White River State Park area. As we walked along the canal, we took in the beautiful bridges, waterfront views, and lush greenery that make this spot such a gem for couples’ photos. I always love how the Indy skyline reflects off the water, giving every shot a perfect urban-meets-nature feel.

If Gretta looks familiar, it’s because she’s often behind the camera herself! She second shoots weddings with me when she’s available, so it was extra special to have her on the other side of the lens this time. Poor Cam, though—Gretta and I had way too many inside jokes! But he was a great sport, and we captured so many sweet, candid moments that perfectly showcase their love and playful energy.

To wrap up the evening, we took advantage of the White River State Park’s sprawling green spaces and open skyline views for some final shots before the sun dipped below the city. This park is one of my favorite spots in downtown Indianapolis for photography, offering a little bit of everything—waterfront charm, cityscape views, and plenty of space for couples to relax and just be themselves.
