If you’re debating whether or not to sneak away for sunset photos on your wedding day, let me tell you—it’s always worth it! As a wedding photographer, I encourage my couples to take advantage of this magical time, and here’s why:
1. Less Pressure
By the time sunset rolls around, all of your formal photos have already been taken, and most—if not all—of your wedding day events are over. This means you can fully relax and be present in the moment. Once we wrap up sunset photos, you’re free to celebrate with your guests, knowing we’ve captured even more stunning images of your day.
2. Candid & Creative Moments
Earlier in the day, you were likely focused on everything going on—the timeline, the guests, the nerves, and making sure everything was perfect. Sunset photos allow you to be more in the moment, let loose, and enjoy the creative, romantic side of your portraits. This is the perfect time for intimate, candid shots that feel effortless and authentic.
3. A Private, Meaningful Break
Many of my couples tell me they love having this short escape from the crowd. Your wedding day is a whirlwind, and taking a few minutes away from the reception lets you and your partner soak in the day together. It’s a rare, quiet moment to reflect on your vows and truly enjoy being newlyweds.
4. You Feel Better After Eating & Unwinding
By this point, you’ve had a chance to eat and maybe even enjoy a cocktail. Even if you didn’t feel hungry earlier, getting some food in you makes a huge difference in your energy and mood. This natural boost helps you feel even more comfortable and confident in your photos.
5. The Dreamiest Lighting
Sunset light is absolutely stunning! Whether we get a perfect golden glow or a soft, moody sky, the lighting is dramatically different from earlier in the day. The warm tones, soft shadows, and romantic ambiance create some of the most breathtaking wedding portraits.
Bonus: A Chance to Change It Up
If you have a second look planned, want to take out your veil, or simply switch up your hairstyle, sunset photos are the perfect time to do it! This adds variety to your gallery and gives you another chance to showcase your wedding style.
Sunset photos are a must for any couple looking to maximize their wedding portraits while enjoying a peaceful, intimate moment together. If you’re planning your wedding, let’s chat about how we can make your sunset session unforgettable!
