If you have a blog for your photography business (which you totally should!) you’ll want to be you are using SEO correctly. Using SEO correctly, will ensure that you are showing up in search engines. Navigating SEO can be tricky, especially when the ins and outs of the internet are always changing. To help, I am listing 5 SEO tips below that will help your blog posts rank higher.
Make sure you’re including at least one image in each blog post, as posts with images perform better than those without.
Not only will tagging the location or using keyword specific to the location help you show up in location related searches, but it will help you show up in locations you’d like to shoot again. For example, when I shoot a destination wedding I include the location in not only the title, but use relevant keywords that are specific to the venue and/or location so that my chances of working there are grater. This is also true to your local market.
Search engines can’t read images so its important to use alt text to describe your images. Describing your images will help your photos and post perform better and show up in related searches. The best rule of thumb is to describe your images as if you are speaking to a blind person, the more descriptive the better.
Link all participating vendors and location in your blog post. Search engines will reward you for linking your sources and your posts will rank higher. This step does take me a bit longer, but I usually have this done before the wedding or session so it is easier for me to get my posts up faster. I receive a vendor list within six-weeks of the wedding, so there is time to properly cite and credit all vendors before hand to save yourself the time after.
Using relevant keywords will help increase your chances of showing up in related searches.
