I was so excited to meet the Ketchum family during my spring mini sessions at Coxhall Gardens Children’s Garden in Carmel, Indiana. One thing that always means so much to me as a family photographer is when families make the effort to travel for their session, and the Ketchums drove all the way from southeast Indianapolis that morning for updated family photos with their two sweet daughters.
As a mom and photographer, I know firsthand how busy family life can be, especially with young children. Between sports, school activities, work schedules, and everyday life, it can be hard to carve out time for family photos. That’s why I never take it for granted when families choose to spend part of their weekend with me.

One of my favorite things about photographing families with young children is capturing the stage of life that often feels the most chaotic and the most fleeting all at once.
The little hand-holding moments. The way your child still wants to be carried. The gap-toothed smiles, silly giggles, and endless curiosity. These are the details that change before we realize it.
When parents book family photos, they often tell me they’re waiting for things to slow down or for life to feel a little less busy. The truth is, family life rarely slows down. The years keep moving, the kids keep growing, and before long, the moments you thought you’d never forget start to fade.
That’s why I believe there is never a perfect time for family photos. The best time is now.
The Ketchum girls were such a joy to photograph. One of the things I love most about working with young children is that every session is different. Kids bring their own personalities, energy, and sense of wonder to a session, and that’s what makes the photographs so meaningful.
As an Indianapolis family photographer, my goal is never to force children into perfect poses or expect them to sit still for an hour. Instead, I create space for genuine interactions and natural moments between family members.
Some of my favorite images are often the in-between moments—the giggles, the cuddles, the hand squeezes, and the expressions parents see every day but rarely get to preserve in photographs.
The Ketchum family joined me for an early morning session, which is something I frequently recommend for families with young children.
I always tell parents that morning sessions give us the best chance for success because little ones are usually rested, fed, and ready to explore. As I like to joke, if you’re having a bad day, it probably hasn’t happened yet.
Morning sessions often lead to happier kids, less stress for parents, and more authentic smiles throughout the session.
Sessions like this one remind me why I love being an Indianapolis family photographer. It was such an honor to spend the morning with the Ketchum family and help document this season of life for them.
Years from now, these photographs won’t just show what everyone looked like. They’ll tell the story of who they were during this chapter—the ages of the girls, the way they interacted with their parents, and all the little details that make this season unique.
If you’re looking for a family photographer in Indianapolis, Carmel, Fishers, Westfield, Noblesville, or the surrounding areas, I’d love to help you preserve your family’s story with natural, joy-filled photographs you’ll treasure for years to come. Here’s a link to my upcoming mini calendar!
